Ex-President Donald Trump's sons Donald Trump Jr and Eric Trump arrived together to testify in the New York civil fraud trial.
Ex-President Donald Trump’s eldest son Donald Trump Jr joked with a courtroom sketch artist to make him ‘look like a superhero’.
That is not how his court sketch turned out.
Donald Trump Jr made the request to the artist on his way out of the courtroom for a short break on Thursday morning, his second day testifying in the New York civil fraud trial.
Instead of making Trump Jr, 45, look like a superhero, the artist seemed to depict him more aged. The sketch showed Trump Jr with a frown and with a slightly more hollowed face with white spots.
By contrast, Trump Jr at many moments appeared relaxed on the stand, continuing with his demeanor on his first day testifying on Wednesday when he cracked a series of quips.
Trump Jr and the ex-president’s second eldest son, Eric Trump, arrived at New York Supreme Court shortly before 10am wearing similar outfits. They both donned dark suits and light blue ties, however Trump Jr appeared to be wearing a light pink shirt and Eric a white one.
Trump Jr returned to the witness stand for questioning by New York Attorney General counsel Colleen Faherty. Eric was not in the courtroom at the time.
Trump Jr’s second day of testimony ran about 90 minutes. He said he signed off on numerous loan documents trusting that the Trump Organization’s legal and accounting team had checked for accuracy.
‘I would have checked with the legal team… and if they assured me in their expert opinion it was all fine, I would have signed off accordingly,'” he said.’ Trump Jr told Faherty. ‘I have signed dozens of these in my time as trustee.’
Trump Jr’s lawyers did not cross-examine him. His brother entered the room and was called to the witness stand by the New York Attorney General’s Office around 11.45am.
Photographers snapped pictures of Eric before he took the stand.
‘Does everybody have their makeup on?’ asked Judge Arthur Engoron, a reference to Trump Jr’s remark the day before when he was being photographed that he ‘should have worn makeup’.
Eric replied: ‘No makeup on me, Your Honor.’
The judge continued with the light-hearted tone of trial surrounding the Trump brothers.
‘Are you sure you got enough photos?’ Engoron asked the press.
‘Was it King Kong where they’re taking pictures of the beast and it goes crazy? I don’t know how you put up with this.’
Eric said he had no involvement in his father’s annual financial statements that are the focal point of New York Attorney General Letitia James’ $250million civil fraud lawsuit against the ex-president, the two eldest sons and executives of the Trump Organization. James claims they inflated the value of their assets to obtain more favorable loans.’
‘I never had anything to do with the statement of financial condition,’ said Eric.
‘I was 26 years old at the time, I don’t recall what I knew at the time, but I never worked on it and didn’t know anything about it until this case came into fruition.’
