A WOMAN who won a Marks & Spencer’s Sparks prize has dubbed it the worst freebie of all time.
The shopper believes that it would have been less insulting for the retail giant to give her nothing.
M&S gives freebies to customers signed up to the Sparks loyalty scheme[/caption]M&S’ Sparks loyalty scheme gives shoppers the chance to win money off their shop or win freebies, such as Percy Pigs, whenever they make a purchase.
It supposedly gives personalised offers and says that “the more you shop, the better the offers become”.
However, one shopper has taken to Mumsnet to disagree with this.
She was offered a free paper bag as a reward.
M&S swapped plastic carrier bags for paper ones in all of its stores in September and charges 60p each.
The shopper who was given one as part of a loyalty giveaway has said she thinks it is “the worst freebie of all time”, adding that giving her nothing “would’ve been less insulting”.
“Just opened the M&S app and saw the little ‘1’ beside Sparks,” she wrote.
“Oh goodie. Will it be free chocolate or Percy Pigs? Or even 20% off women’s clothes?
“Nope. It was… drum roll…. A free paper bag!
“Be still my beating heart, I can’t contain my excitement.
“So, am I being unreasonable in thinking I have just received the worst ever freebie or can you beat that?”
Hilariously, fellow M&S shoppers agreed that she had got “the worst freebie ever”.
“You can get free paper bags from Primark without buying anything,” one commented.
“I think you win, just for the expectation that you thought you were getting something remotely useful.”
“They offer me discounts on meat (I’m veggie) and discounts on children’s clothes (my baby is 20),” another replied.
“It’s definitely not tailored.”
Others pointed out that a paper bag is a particularly bad freebie considering Storm Ciaran is currently wreaking havoc in the UK.
The Met Office is continuing to warn much of the country of extreme weather conditions sweeping across the country.
Brits can expect to see extreme rain and winds, which Mumsnet users pointed out a paper bag “wouldn’t stand a chance against”.
