There is set to be a flurry of news across the board in both Europe and North America in the next few weeks as programmes come together for the 2024 season.
An early headliner on that front is Nielsen Racing, about to begin their 10th season in racing with a record that includes national and international titles in both Radicals and latterly in LMP3, plus the Asian Le Mans Series overall and LMP2 titles and a 2022 podium finish at the Le Mans 24 Hours in the LMP2 Pro-Am classification.
And it’s in LMP2 that the team’s headline ambitions are now focused.
Alongside a near certain continuation in LMP3 in both the European Le Mans Series and Michelin Le mans Cup, the Corby, UK-based squad is targeting a doubling up of their current single car LMP2 Oreca effort in Europe, Asia and, subject to acceptance, at Le Mans too where the team had a second car on the reserve list earlier this year.
Team owner ‘Sven’ Thompson is bullish about the prospects:
“We’ll have our second Oreca on display at Portimao (for the ELMS season-final double-header) and there’s plenty of interest around,” he said.
“We expect some returning names, as well as welcoming some new names and faces to both the team and the sport.
“To go into our tenth year with the sport in such great health is excellent. We’ve built a reputation on being a tight and happy ship that gets results and we won’t be losing that feel as we push forward, investing in our people and in the cars that we run for our customers.
“The opportunities that the ACO ‘ladder’ offers to both Pro and non-Pro drivers are amazing. Great race series, great cars that can be run for sensible budgets, and the potential for a team like ours to take our customers to the biggest race in the world!”
