Narges Mohammadi, an Iranian rights campaigner, has become the fifth Nobel Peace Prize laureate to win the award while being imprisoned. She was honored for her advocacy against the oppression of women in Iran, including her fight against mandatory hijab and the death penalty. Mohammadi is the vice-president of the Defenders of Human Rights Centre, founded by Nobel Peace Prize laureate Shirin Ebadi. The four previous laureates who were imprisoned when they won the award are Carl Von Ossietzky, Aung San Suu Kyi, Liu Xiaobo, and Ales Bialiatski.
