'Traitorous activity': Former GOP lawmaker hammers Trump for dishing nuclear secrets

Former Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) tore into former President Donald Trump on CNN Friday morning, following the week's reports that he discussed U.S. nuclear submarine secrets with a billionaire Australian national at Mar-a-Lago.

Kinzinger, a former Air Force colonel and a frequent critic of the former president, called out the risk Trump's behavior posed to national security, and the lives of those working in defense of the country.

"Before we let you go ... I want your take on ABC reporting that former President Trump in April of 2021, when he was out of office at Mar-a-Lago, told this Australian billionaire very sensitive information about U.S. nuclear subs, how close they could get without being detected," said anchor Erica Hill. "[Former FBI deputy director] Andrew McCabe was putting in context for us earlier this morning about the level of sensitivity of this information in particular and why it could be so damaging."

"Where is your head at this morning when you hear this latest reporting?" she added.

"Yeah, this is really traitorous activity," said Kinzinger. "This is a complete betrayal of the trust that the United States of America puts in you as president."

"Fred [Upton] and I in Congress allocated billions of dollars these these programs to save American lives and ensure we could operate the seas and control the freedom of navigation in the way that American people expect," he continued. "For Donald Trump to say these secrets, he is literally — he is putting American lives in jeopardy. He is putting American defense strategy in jeopardy and wasting billions of dollars because now we will have to change those secrets, obviously, if they get out. This is unforgiveable. This is par for the course for Donald Trump. You know, anybody that supports him and defends him cannot call themselves a China hawk in the same breath."
