Chip shop owners think they’ve unearthed the UK’s biggest potato
A massive potato weighing over two kilograms that was found at a chippy could be the largest in the UK.
It was found at Archie’s Fish and Chip Shop in Minster, Kent, and the owners think it looks like either a seal or hippo.
Owners Natalia Sidorova, 50, and Alexander Povalyaev, 42, said the potato which also measures 10×6 inches came in a bag they received from a supplier.
The chippy has been hosting a guessing game for customers and will keep the potato until Saturday.
‘We believe that is the one of the big potatoes in the UK,’ Natalia said.
‘We will clean it and will make chips and also will ask our customers to guess how many portions we will get from it.’
The couple said this is the biggest potato they have ever come across since working at the chippy for 10 years.
They don’t know how many portions they will get from the potato but Alexander said it could be ‘two medium portions’.
The current world record for the biggest potato is held by Nottinghamshire vegetable grower, Peter Glazebrook, for a potato weighing 4.98 kg.
Another massive potato called Doug was discovered in 2021 when Colin and Donna Craig-Brown were weeding their small farm near Hamilton in New Zealand.
Colin’s hoe hit Doug and the couple pulled the potato out, shocked to find out Doug was no small-fry.
Doug weighs 7.8 kg, which is as heavy as two whole sacks of his regular brothers and sisters or even one small dog.
