At Metro, we’ve pretty much seen it all when it comes to dodgy car parking.
From tiny bays painted appropriate for toddler’s bikes to Britain’s ‘politest ever parking note’, nothing really fails to surprise us… but we had to laugh at this one.
Road workers were forced to resurface around a car after a driver failed to move their vehicle in time – despite being given plenty of notice.
Amusing pictures show the moment workers decided to tarmac around the silver Vauxhall Corsa yesterday, on Queen Street in Scarborough, North Yorkshire.
The car is parked on a slab of old road – a noticeably different colour from the fresh new tarmac around it.
Pictures show the 2008-registration Corsa parked opposite a large yellow sign, which reads: ‘Surfacing works. No parking between 6pm and 6am.’
Michael Curtis, 36, posted the pictures of the car on the Scarborough Moan Facebook page.
In one image, a traffic warden is seen stood next to the parked vehicle.
Resident Jordan Chambers, 35, said that signs about the upcoming workers had been up for a while.
He said: ‘Someone obviously didn’t get the memo, either that or they parked with their eyes shut and didn’t read the sign opposite or wonder why no one else had parked on the road.
‘The workmen turned up and tutted a bit but just cracked on.
‘They even threaded the safety tape round the car wing mirror. I can’t wait to see the driver’s face when they realise what an idiot they’ve been.’
Many people expressed surprise that the car wasn’t towed out of the way by the workers.
One person wrote on social media: ‘Hardly takes a rocket scientist to realise the road was being resurfaced. Cones and warning sign clearly not enough of a hint for some people.’
We wonder how the driver felt when they eventually returned to their car and discover what happened…
