CT man was storing and processing narcotics as a member of a street gang. He will spend five years in prison on drug, weapon crimes.

A Waterbury man was sentenced Thursday to more than five years in federal prison for firearm and narcotics crimes connected to a street gang, officials said.

Tavaughn “Teddy” Wright, 29, appeared in court in Bridgeport on Thursday and was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Kari A. Dooley to 63 months in prison followed by four years of supervised release, according to the U.S. Attorney’s office. Wright pleaded guilty in June to one count of conspiracy to distribute and to possess with intent to distribute controlled substances and one count of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.

According to court records, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and local police have been investigating multiple groups in Waterbury that are involved with narcotics trafficking and violent crime, including murder, federal officials said.

Investigators found that Wright was storing and processing narcotics from a location on Buckingham Street and distributing them while a member of the 960 gang, according to court records.

Investigators searched Wright’s home on Bucks Hill Road and the location on Buckingham Street in February 2020 and found more than 550 bags of heroin and fentanyl and a loaded 9mm handgun that had been reported stolen from Maine in 2016, court records said.

Wright is a convicted felon, therefore was not allowed to be in possession of a firearm.

Wright has been in custody since February 2020, according to the U.S. Attorney’s office.
