My selfish neighbour has hogged the same parking spot for 17 HOURS to charge his swish EV – he’s taking up all the space

AN ELECTRIC vehicle owner has slammed her selfish neighbour for hogging the same parking spot for 17 hours just to charge their car.

Elaine, who has five children and ten grandchildren, took to social media to vent her anger towards a fellow EV owner.

Public charging points can power up an electric vehicle in as little as 25 minutes, although some slower plugs may still take between six and 12 hours[/caption]

The grandmother shared a photograph of a charging point with an electric screen showing the car had been plugged in for 17 hours and 36 minutes.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), she said: “This is the sort of thing that causes charge rage.

“We have 2 local charging points and there is one car that does this regularly.”

But the 17-hour charge time which her neighbour had racked up is far beyond what electric vehicles usually need – even if filling the battery up from empty.

Households which have a charger fitted at home can fully-charge their car from empty in between two to seven hours.

However, that does depend on the charging speed they pick, according to the RAC.

Meanwhile, public charging points can power up an electric vehicle in as little as 25 minutes, although some slower plugs may still take between six and 12 hours.

But arguments between electric vehicle owners over charging points in certain parts of the UK are still on the rise.

With not enough charging points available, people are often left waiting and growing impatient.

And unfortunately for Elaine, things are no different with her neighbour.

In a separate post, she added: “One car makes a habit of this. Selfish and infuriating.”

Many EV owners claim that they have to get up in the middle of the night just to power up their cars because it’s the only time some pumps are free.

However, experts have warned that the problem is set to get worse before it gets better.

This is because of an expected increase in demand for electric vehicles outstripping the current supply of chargers.

The latest figures, according to the Daily Mail, show there were 850,000 electric vehicles on UK roads at the end of August, with a further 530,000 plug-in hybrids.

The Government aims to install 300,000 charging points by 2030, but is far away from that target with just 48,000 public charging points – the equivalent of one per 29 cars.
