Farke didn't want to embarrass players with HT changesLeeds Manager Daniel Farke felt he would be throwing his players under the bus had he made half-time substitutions last weekend at St Mary's.
Speaking after the game, the Leeds gaffer admitted that he wanted to spare his players feeling, and give them an opportunity to put things right, therefor more or less sacrificing the game to spare his players feelings.
Most Championship outfits would give their eye teeth to have the option Leeds had on their bench at the weekend, yet Farke waited until the 73rd minute before making any changes. Back in 2005, Leeds famously came from 3-0 down to beat Southampton 4-3 at that very ground!
“I got the feeling I didn’t have to do a bit more with the attitude or with the mentality [of the players],” “It was more like I want to give the players a chance to show a reaction because if you go back into the dressing room at half-time, you are 3-0 down, it's always difficult. “I didn't want to show there is, with two or three substitutions, these two or three players were crucial for being back (behind) that much. I didn't want to embarrass them.
“I want to give the whole team the chance to show a reaction. That's what they did because I didn't have the feeling after the first half there are one or two players just to blame. “It was more like, as a team, we could have been a bit more sharper and a bit more aware and the lads showed a good reaction. Sadly, it was not enough to turn the game completely.”
Will Rodon be recalled for the visit of QPRDaniel Farke created quite a stir last weekend when Joe Rodon was benched during Leeds visit to St Mary's last weekend, after serving his one match suspension following his sending off at Hull.
It's very easy to criticise, especially with the benefit of hindsight. Farke believed it would have sent the wrong message to the dressing room, had he changed the team, especially after a glowing performance against Watford the week before.
The German needs to decide whether to recall Rodon for the visit of Queens Park Rangers on Wednesday evening, and if he does, will it be seen as an admission of fault, for not recalling him at Southampton?
Jaidon Anthony 'really enjoying' his ER experienceJaidon Anthony spoke with team-mate Max Aarons about Daniel Farke before agreeing his season long loan to Elland Road, late on deadline day almost five weeks ago.
Arrons had worked under Daniel Farke at Norwich, and gave the German a glowing reference, telling Anthony that he'd (Farke) would be perfect for his style of play. The former Norwich right wing back came close to joining the Whites this Summer, but the move was hijacked when the Cherries found out about the proposed move.
Anthony has settled in well in West Yorkshire, and is probably unlucky not to have been given more game time. He has made four substitute appearances, chalking up 75 minutes of game time, scoring once. He was quick to praise Farke, saying that he was one of the most detailed managers he had worked with, and that he is enjoying his Leeds Utd experience.
“Obviously it's early weeks, but he's [Farke] one of the most detailed managers I've worked with. "The meetings are very long and he plans out exactly what he wants us to do. Then it's up to us as players, we have a lot of options when we're on the pitch and know where each other should be.
"It's then down to us to put it into practice and we'll see if we can create from the positions he's in. He's very detailed in what he wants and I'm having to learn a lot quickly. "Obviously he's been so successful in this division before and I spoke a bit with Max Aarons who is at Bournemouth now and he only spoke highly of him.
"He said he'd be perfect for my play style and that I could learn a lot from him. "I'm seeing that already and hopefully I can continue improving as a player and have some great success with this team. Training is very intense."
"The staff are very demanding but I'm used to that from my time at Bournemouth, there's a culture there as well in the way they train. It's been hard for a few years and I had a good pre-season in fairness so I came in and was ready to go. "I've enjoyed it and it's been intense but I've really enjoyed it." So far Anthony has made four appearances for Leeds, scoring once."
