The Penticton Vees wrap up their season opening four-game road stretch tonight in Powell River. Penticton opened the weekend road trip with a 4-3 overtime win in Nanaimo on Friday.

The Vees overcame a 3-1 second period deficit to win their second-straight on the road. Penticton never led in Friday’s game, but they came away with two points, courtesy of Francesco Dell’Elce’s overtime winner on the power play. His first BCHL goal capped off a two-point night.

Attila Lippai scored in the first period and James Fisher and Brock Reinhart (shorthanded) scored in the middle frame.

Andrew Ness picked up his first win in net, as the Vees’ goaltender stopped 27 of 30 shots.

Tonight, the Vees face the Kings for the first of two meetings in the regular season. The two teams meet again in October at the BCHL Showcase in Seattle. Tonight’s the Vees first visit to Powell River since November 26th, of last season, when they earned a 4-2 win.

Not an easy task today for Penticton, as they had an early Saturday morning travel day to Powell River, which also involved a ferry ride over to Powell River from Comox. A quick turnaround compounded by an overtime game Friday, means the Vees will be battling against fatigue.

Will Ingemann makes his second start in goal for Penticton. The 18-year-old is coming off a 13-save shutout over the Merritt Centennials a week ago today. No other lineup changes are expected.

The Kings are in search of their first win of the new season, after their 5-4 loss to the Victoria Grizzlies in their home opener on Friday night.

The Kings built up a 4-1 lead by the seven-minute mark of the second period, but saw that slip away, as the Grizzlies scored four unanswered goals to grab the two points. It was a back-and-forth game, with both teams making goaltending changes. Powell River starter Owen Crudale stopped 26 of 31 shots before giving way to Will Baker for the final seven minutes of the third period.

Anthony Yu had three points (1-2-3) in Friday’s loss. Alex Van Houtte-Cachero and Will Jones each had a goal and an assist.

The Kings have eight players are back from last year’s team that finished 7th in the Coastal Conference with a 20-26-5-3 record.
