Kuwait organizes training on radioactive materials
KUWAIT: The Kuwait Cancer Control Center announced that Kuwait will host a regional training course on the production and quality checks of positron radioactive materials associated with radioactive fluorine in cooperation with the Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). The chairman of the board of nuclear medicine departments and head of the nuclear medicine department at the center, Dr. Abdulreda Abbas, told the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that the five-day course aims to introduce the latest methods of producing positron radioactive materials, a number of which are produced in the centers of the Ministry of Health.
He pointed out that the course also aims to discuss quality tests that ensure the safety of materials given to patients, in addition to explaining the best methods related to the quality of pharmaceutical manufacturing and related clinical applications. He explained that the course, which will be attended by a number of international and local experts, also aims to familiarize participants with matters related to radiation protection and calculating exposure doses for patients.
He pointed out that the hosting of the Department of Nuclear Medicine at the Center for this course comes within its choice to be a Regional Training Center under the cooperative agreement of the Arab countries located in Asia for research, development, and training in the field of nuclear science and technology (ARASIA agreement) and in coordination with the National Liaison Officer at the International Atomic Energy Agency, Dr. Nader Al-Awadi. – KUNA
