I’ve been on TV for 55 years & Tipping Point was the worst experience EVER – I still have nightmares about Ben Shepherd
A TIPPING Point contestant has revealed his experience on the show was the ‘worst experience’ of his life.
The popular ITV game show, which is presented by Ben Shephard, sees contestants take on a huge arcade-style coin machine.
During the programme, three hopefuls are asked a number of general knowledge questions – if they guess correctly, they win a counter to place in the machine.
But for Gyles Brandreth the show has left a permanent scar – even causing heart palpitations for the former politician and now broadcaster.
During a recent appearance on This Morning, Gyles, 75, was reunited with host Ben, 48.
The Good Morning Britain presenter stood in to front the daytime programme with Holly, 42.
Speaking on air, Gyles declared: “I’ve coped with this. I’ve had palpitations all morning.
“When I saw you in the corridor with Ben, did you see how I looked a little bit alarmed? It’s because when I appeared on Tipping Point it was the worst moment.”
He continued: “I’ve been appearing on television for 55 years and it was the worst experience of my life.
“I was tipped off within the first three minutes. I could not make it, I couldn’t understand.”
Ben, who was visibly amused, told Gyles he should have researched the programme before his appearance.
Gyles added that following the episode he’s had “bad dreams about Ben ever since”.
Brandreth featured in a celebrity episode of Tipping Point in 2020 called Lucky Stars.
He competed against Coronation Street actor Daniel Brocklebank and comedian Shazia Mirza.
This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV1 and ITVX.
