Let’s be fair, it was a headline many might have expected to see this season based on the performances Georginio Rutter delivered last season. He was quickly looking like another of Victor Orta’s failures, a spectacular one too at a record £36 million. But perhaps it was more an issue of the wrong player at the wrong time or a lack of any true coaching philosophy or consistency at the club. Many players failed to perform during last season run in, but with a club record price tag around his neck, Rutter perhaps drew an unfair proportion of the discontent of the Leeds United faithful.
But whilst the mischief of rats has scuttled away from Elland Road this summer, there were no murmurings from Georginio Rutter’s camp. Rutter may not have delivered to our, or his own expectations last season, but he is a player determined to prove his ability and price tag this season. As Daniel Farke has said, Goergi works ‘unbelievable hard’ and the rewards are beginning to show. Where Rutter was once an embarrassment to himself, now he is embarrassing Championship defenders every weekend.
The Watford game was another masterclass from the French striker and whilst he may not have found the back of the net himself, he was involved in prety much every opportunity Leeds United created. His work rate and skill ultimately led to two of our goals and he arguable should have had one himself. One chance saved by the keeper, another ruled out for offside. Daniel Farke was full of praise for Rutter after the game, but emphasised the need to know when to turn on the skill and when to play more pragmatically.
We can all be happy with Goergi today. Work ethic and quality. Works hard and wins the ball back. links the play. Important he does not enjoy himself too much, Play pragmatic football. Before we celebrate and enjoy we concentrate on scoring the goal. Criticised him a little at half-time, but great assists and a top-class performance in the second half. Enjoy your football, but do not go over the line and make it embarrassing for the opponent. He found good balance. Magic touches worked out today because we were leading, but when we are chasing the game or down to 10 men, you need to be more pragmatic, Have to remember hs is still a young player. Guide him with some good leadership.
With the likes of Luis Sinisterra deserting ship, Rutter has the potential to be a real star in the Championship for Leeds United this season and he is already starting to show it. He is a young player with a lot of talent, playing in a league that looks to suit his style of play. The Championship is a league of opportunity. It is a league where young players (he’s younger than Crysencio Summerville after all) can come and prove themselves. It is a league where players can make a name for themselves and establish themselves as stars. Georginio Rutter has the potential to be one of those players for Leeds this season. He has the talent, the drive, and now the support of the fans and his manager. If he can stay fit and focused, he could be a real force to be reckoned with in the Championship this season.
