A RARE “danger to life” yellow warning has been issued by the Met Office – with Brits set to be lashed by wild winds in just days.

Forecasters said that winds of up to 80mph could unleash “flying debris”, power cuts and monster waves from 10am on Wednesday to 5am on Thursday.

The wind warning covers most of the UK except the south east, the south coast, East Anglia and the far north of Scotland.

The Met Office said: “A spell of strong winds is expected to move northeast through Wednesday, with a small chance that they could be significantly disruptive.

“There is a small chance of injuries and danger to life from flying debris.”

50-60mph winds are expected in inland areas – with the “most exposed coasts” risking a 80mph battering.

Experts said that tiles could be blown off roofs, and that power and phone lines could be cut.

The winds are likely to unleash commuter chaos, with road closures expected alongside train and flight delays.

In coastal parts, large waves could hurl beach material onto the seafront – another potential “danger to life”.

There is also a chance of ferry delays and minor flooding along some coastal roads.

A yellow rain warning is also in place today for western and central Scotland, with the potential for flooding.
