MICHAEL KLUCK CROWNED 6-SHOOTERS CHAMPION! KYLE HERR DRIFTS TO SKIDDER’S CHAMPIONSHIP!
Marshfield, WI, (September 2, 2023) – It was WCAR Fan Appreciation Night at the speedway tonight, and with many participation activities and giveaways for the kids and all fans, a nice crowd was in support of the speedway.
Mark Eswein made the trek from Wisconsin Rapids, WI today, in hopes of adding another championship to his long list of championships throughout his career. With Eswein’s attention to detail and time spent in the race shop, his consistency could pay off tonight. Eswein, after capturing fast time honors, said in the pre-race ceremony, “Thanks to all of you fans for showing up, and I hope we can put on a good show worth the money you spent in admission.”
Finishing 4th in the Chili Implement Dash, to eventual winner Jevin Guralski, Eswein wrapped up the dash championship, and now could set his mind on the big picture, a Marshfield Motor Speedway championship. Branden Sischo visited victory lane for the second time this year, grabbing the heat win.
Branden Sischo, in his #48 super late model, led the way early in the 35-lap feature event. Sischo, who calls Stratford, WI home, has been making big steps in his knowledge and driving ability, in this, his rookie season in the super late model division. With Sischo holding the lead early, it was La Crosse, WI driver Carter Christenson making the pass of Sischo on lap 4, for the race lead. Christenson, son of former ASA driver Ken Christenson, would hold the top spot for the next 4 laps in his #02 car. Christenson is another driver that has made huge strides as of late, and has been a top 5 car the second half of the season.
On lap 7, it was Jerad de Boer in his #7-11 ride making the inside pass of Christenson for the top spot. Once in the lead, de Boer stretched his lead to 5 car lengths over Christenson and third place driver Mark Eswein. While holding the aforementioned lead, the last thing last week’s feature winner, de Boer, wanted to see was the caution flag. With 20 laps remaining, caution did fly for the blown engine on the Sischo entry. Once the drivers doubled up on the restart, Eswein chose the outside of de Boer, and when the drivers hit turn one, the 7-11 drifted a little high and instead of using the #71 car as a cushion, de Boer used better judgement and back out of the throttle. In doing so, Eswein was able to pull to a 3-car length lead, over now second place driver, Jevin Guralski. After a few laps, de Boer was able to race his way past Guralski, and focused his attention on running down Eswein. With Eswein having complete dominance in the super late model division in 2023, de Boer’s thoughts of running down Eswein looked bleak. However, it was very noticeable that the #7-11 was creeping forward on Eswein. With 7 laps remaining, de Boer pulled to the bumper cover of the #71 car as the drivers entered turn three. In the final 6 laps, the 7-11 started shooting sparks in the middle of turns 1 and 2. With Eswein holding the lead, the #7-11 spun out exiting turn 2, bringing out the caution flag, and Eswein earning the feature win and track championship. de boer stated, “With 6-7 laps remaining, I knew something in the front end was going South on us, found out we had a left front upper brake on us.” de Boer further stated, “I’m not sure we would of won, but we would of looked big in his rear view mirror.” Finishing second to another impressive Eswein win, it was Jevin Guralski capping off a great night of racing. Guralski practiced earlier in the year, and showed a lot of speed in his #20 car. He could certainly be a threat to win when TUNDRA visits the speedway in two weeks. Rounding out the final podium spot, it was Darren Jackson in his #2 Sunrise Bar hot rod. Jackson, who in mid-season had his engine blow while visiting Norway Speedway, is finally getting the monkey off his back, and has the #2 car looking strong. Finishing fourth and fifth tonight, it was Carter Christenson and Darek Gress, respectively.
The 6-Shooters were making their final appearance at Marshfield for the 2023 season, and Michael Kluck was looking for his first championship. Karl Genett, in his #16x car, tripped the clock fastest in qualifying with a lap time of 23.686 seconds. Heat winner tonight for the 6-Shooters, it was Randy Komis parking his car in the Solutionz Victory Lane.
Leading the way in the feature event, it was Patrick Reeves leading the first couple of laps. Making the pass of Reeves on lap 4, it was championship hopeful driver, Michael Kluck. Kluck, who has been nothing short of sensational this season, would lead the next four laps. On lap 7, Kluck had a mirror of the #16x Karl Genett hot rod. One lap later, it was Genett making the pass of Kluck for the race lead. Once out front, it was clean air all the way to victory lane for Genett, earning another feature win. With a second place finish, Michael Kluck was able to lock up the 2023 championship. Patrick Reeves finished strong and grabbed the third position.
In what has been a great show all season long, and kept the fans on the edge of their seats, the Skidder’s made their final appearance of the season for the 2023 season.
These drifting cars that compete on skid plates, sparked the fans with much excitement, again tonight.
It was Ryan Bentz jumping out to the early lead as he held a lead over Kyle Herr. On lap 3, it was Herr drifting his way past Bentz for the top spot. Two laps later, Bentz returned the favor, and would lead until the final lap. That was when Herr snatched the lead away from Bentz, and drifted on the the race lead. Cliff Neubauer, his has been strong all season long, earned the third position. With the win, Herr was crowned the season champ, as Mark Hagen finished in the runner up position.
Earning fast time honors in the X-Treme 4’s by .0233 seconds over Phil Malouf, it was Tim Anderson in his #27 4-Cylinder mod. Heat winners tonight, it was #38 Kamren Hill and Tim Anderson.
Rylie Mullen led the field to the green flag for the X-Treme 4’s 20-lap main event. Pat Dickman grabbed the early lead away from Mullen, as he paced the field for 4 laps. On lap 5, it was Tim Anderson making the pass of Dickman for the race lead. Moving into the runner up position, it was the #32 of Phil Malouf, with Anna Price holding a strong third position.
As the race progressed, Malouf seemed to close slightly on Anderson, but to no avail. Anderson cruised to the victory, with Malouf and Price finishing second and third respectively. Rounding out the top five, it was Shawn Grabinger and Kamren Hill, fourth and fifth respectively.
The always exciting Bandits put another great show for the Marshfield crowd, and it was Sam Sheahen posting the fastest lap in qualifying. Sheahen, who calls Wausau, WI home, tripped the clock at 22.840 seconds.
Joey Blaschka & Sam Sheahen visited the Solutionz Victory Lane, with heat wins for the two gentlemen drivers.
John Domine grabbed the early lead and set the pace for the first two laps of the 15-lap Bandit feature. Austyn Rauch put his #21 car in the top spot with an outside pass of Domine on lap 3. Rauch, whom of which has been getting better with every race under his belt, would hold the lead for the next 9 laps. On lap 11, Rauch’s rear view mirror showed a fast approaching #715 car. Sheahen was able to make the pass of Rauch with 5 laps remaining. Once in the lead, Sheahen had complete control of the field, and went on to notch another feature win. With Rauch finishing an impressive second, it was a very fast Ashley Schoone coming home third. Rounding out the top five, it was Mark Schoone in fourth, and Joey Blaschka nabbing the fifth spot.
The Super Stocks visited the speedway again tonight, and it was Jim Cormack earning top honors in qualifying. Cormack edged Brian Weinfurter by 0.051 seconds
Brian Weinfurter out motored Kaleb Hurless, and grabbed the heat win for the super stocks.
Kaleb Hurless, in his sharp looking #13 super stock, pulled out to a 2 car length lead over Rachael Kallas, to set the pace early. By lap 4, it was Jim Cormack making the inside pass of Kallas for the second position. Cormack quickly closed on a fast Hurless hot rod, and made the pass as the two drivers raced down the backstretch.
After a few cautions, Cormack was able to fend off any challenges that competitors presented, and parked his #7 car in the Solutionz Victory Lane. With Hurless finishing a strong second, it was Rachael Kallas putting the #70 car in the third position.
Next week, Marshfield Motor Speedway is host to the WTPA Season Finale Truck & Tractor Pull Championships. In two weeks, the TUNDRA Series will hold their season championship at Marshfield Motor Speedway, with twin feature events.
