The Nike Air Max 1 Gets a Perpetually Stylish Leopard Print

Having debuted in 1987, the Air Max 1 has been a stalwart for Nike. It was the very first shoe to reveal its internal Air cushioning, a decision architect-turned-shoe-designer Tinker Hatfield fought for after being inspired by the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris and its exposed framework.

More than 30 years later, the silhouette is still a regular feature in Nike’s release calendar, be it through in-line color schemes running that gamut of complexity to collaborations with the likes of Travis Scott, Concepts, Patta, and more. Soon to join the mix will be a leopard print-adorned version begging to be styled in a variety of ways.

The women’s-exclusive Air Max 1 sees the bold print take over the mudguard in suede. A sheeny white mesh forms the base of the upper, while additional overlays maintain natural color scheme in a “sesame” canvas. The Swoosh then arrives in a dark brown tumbled leather, adding yet another texture and matching the laces of the same color. Rounding out the kicks is an off-white midsole sitting atop tan outsole.

Although a release date hasn’t been confirmed, the “Sesame/Velvet Brown/Coconut Milk” Air Max 1 is expected to drop before the end of the year. Sizing will be exclusive to women, but that won’t stop dudes who love an animal print and can fit into the smaller size run from going after them, too.
