Little boy dies from injuries after tragic Father’s Day accident
An infant boy has died from severe burns sustained during a tragic accident on Father’s Day.
Max Knight of Queensland, Australia, had been riding his Yamaha Peewee 50 (a motorcycle designed specifically for children) on Sunday morning.
When the five-year-old’s father Harley Knight went to refuel the miniature motorbike, a fire is reported to have broken out, possibly due to the temperature of the engine.
Max sustained burns covering 90 percent of his body while his father suffered burns on his face, chest and arms.
The young boy was subsequently airlifted to Queensland Children’s Hospital, where emergency workers were sadly unable to save his life.
He died from his injuries at 7am the following day.
His grandfather, Tennocy Knight, told local press: ‘Max was a good little kid. He lived life to the fullest, like his father.
‘It’s been a really tough day for us and we are just trying to cope with the loss.
‘The hardest thing for us as a family was to sit there beside his bed and do nothing.’
Harley meanwhile was taken to Toowomba Hospital for medical treatment before being taken to Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.
Tennocy added that Harley has since been placed into a coma in order to stabilise his condition for surgery.
It is understood the doctors do not intend to bring Harley back out of the coma before Thursday.
At this point, Tennocy says, Harley does not know his son has passed away.
