A Connecticut man was sentenced to five years in prison for possessing firearms in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, according to federal officials.
Latrell Roundtree, also known as “Roundtree,” 28, of Hamden, also was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Kari A. Dooley in Bridgeport to three years of supervised release, according to federal officials.
Authorities, citing court documents and statements made in court, said that an investigation into Roundtree and his associates determined “Rountree was stashing narcotics in his apartment” in Hamden. But in May 2022, “as investigators arrived to conduct a court-authorized search of the apartment, Rountree threw a backpack from the fourth floor balcony and attempted to flee by climbing over the railing of the balcony to the third floor apartment,” authorities said.
Roundtree was apprehended outside the apartment building, authorities said. Then, a search of the backpack revealed about “106 grams of crack cocaine, approximately 12 grams of fentanyl, three loaded semi-automatic pistols, and ammunition,” authorities said. “An additional quantity of crack was found inside the apartment.”
Rountree, whose criminal history includes felony convictions for firearm offenses, pleaded guilty in April 2023 to possession of firearms in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime,” authorities said.
Rountree is free on a $200,000 bond and must report to prison on Oct. 12.
