Richard Madeley forced to apologise after swearing live on Good Morning Britain
GOOD Morning Britain anchor Richard Madeley was forced to apologise after swearing live on air today.
The 67-year-old presenter, who is fronting the show with Kate Garraway, 56, shocked ITV fans with his blooper.
It came during a chat with the former Olympian sprinter Iwan Thomas, who is stranded in Amsterdam after flights to the UK were cancelled over air traffic control failures.
Richard said: “It’s a good job you kept your passport on you.
“And it’s a good job you’ve got a couple of credit cards on you.
“Otherwise you really would be stuck, you would just basically be sitting on your a**e.”
When Kate flashed him a surprised look, Richard corrected himself and said: “Excuse me.
“Sitting on your bottom, at the airport on the floor, which so many people are.”
Not letting it lie, one viewer reacted to the gaffe online and said: “Been watching GMB five minutes and old Richie Rich has said a**e and hell.”
One more tweeted: “Did Richard Madeley just say a**e?”
Thousands of holidaymakers were hit by the bank holiday travel delays, which started yesterday when a “technical issue” grounded flights heading to and from the UK.
Later on Monday, Richard and his co-host Kate Garraway clashed with the transport secretary Mark Harper about the Bank Holiday weekend failures.
Furious Richard accused the minister of making light of the problem that left families stranded and forced to sleep on trolleys and airport floors.
Richard got frustrated and snapped: “Can you not accept that people watching this their hearts will sink when they hear you trying to downgrade the problem and say it’s not that bad?
“Because it’s terrible minister! It’s awful.”
