Scots tourists urged others to “keep on driving” in a scathing review[/caption]Giving the destination a one-star rating, they branded the Main Street as “a chav paradise” with “an air of grubbiness”.
Posting under the username annemarieb181, they added: “The Main Street was a chav paradise, loudmouths, slot machines and a general air of grubbiness.
“Went for a coastal walk the next day and yes it was just as bad, bus back to North Bay.
“It’s no great surprise places like Scarborough struggle, the place needs a good clean up and that includes a lot of the clientele.”
Another tourist blasted the “dirty” beach, adding: “The beach was dirty and the whole neighbouring area littered and filthy.
“We last came here 15 years ago and it’s changed dramatically from a vibrant seaside town to nothing more than a dump.”
Despite the negative review, Scarborough has more than 2,000 five-star ratings on TripAdvisor – with many people raving about the “nice and clean” beach.
North Yorkshire Council was approached for comment.
