Amazon Alexa users are just realizing they can find and delete ‘hidden voice recordings’ of every question they’ve asked
ALEXA users have been informed about a setting that can clear out their device’s voice history.
Amazon launched its artificial intelligence assistant, Alexa, in November 2014.
The AI assistant can help users complete many tasks, such as setting alarms, answering questions, and even ordering food.
What many users don’t know, however, is that Amazon’s Alexa Echo devices are recording your queries and conversations when activated.
Amazon explains that voice recordings are used to improve the accuracy of a user’s interactions with Alexa.
“Deleting voice recordings associated with your account could degrade your experience,” the company warned.
However, as more people grow concerned with privacy breaches, this might make them feel uncomfortable.
Thankfully there is a way to locate and erase your device’s voice recording history.
HOW TO DELETE RECORDING HISTORY
To delete some or all of your voice history, you first need to open the Alexa app.
Once you’re on the app, select More and then tap on Settings.
Locate Alexa Privacy and click on it.
From that list, select Review Voice History.
Then, use the drop-down to select a date range or filter by device or voice ID.
Select the voice recordings that you want to delete or delete all voice recordings for that date range, device, or voice ID.
Users also have the option of automatically deleting all recordings going forward.
To do this, head back to Alexa Privacy Settings then locate Manage Your Data.
Under the Voice Recordings section, you can toggle to delete recordings immediately, after three months, or after 18 months.
