TTP militants ambush border convoy, killing 6 Pakistani soldiers

Pakistani Taliban fighters ambushed a military convoy within a former militant stronghold in the country’s northwest near the border of Afghanistan on Tuesday. The ensuing fierce gunfire exchange caused the deaths of at least six Pakistani soldiers and four militants, the military said.

The attack occurred in South Waziristan, a district within the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, as reported by the military. In response, soldiers eliminated four insurgents and injured two others. A search operation is currently in progress to track down the attackers in the region.

Mohammad Khurasani, the official spokesperson of Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), boldly claimed responsibility for the attack. In boldly asserting their involvement, Khurasani emphasized the group’s association with the incident, leaving no room for doubt.

The Pakistani Taliban and the Afghan Taliban, though distinct entities, maintain an alliance. This partnership was underscored when the Afghan Taliban assumed control of Afghanistan in August 2021 after the U.S. and NATO forces departed.

This power shift bolstered Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), an independent group operating near the Afghan border and in other parts of Pakistan. The TTP has been increasingly audacious in its attacks, frequently targeting areas along the Afghan border and various locations within Pakistan.

However, the Afghan Taliban administration dismisses all allegations, asserting that security issues in Pakistan are solely internal matters.
