Ex-Trump Lawyer Michael Cohen Might Run for Congress as a Democrat
Convicted felon and former Donald Trump lawyer Michael Cohen is considering running for Congress as a Democrat, possibly challenging high-ranking Rep. Jerry Nadler (D., N.Y.).
"I am interested and there's a multitude of folks encouraging me to run," Cohen told Semafor.
Cohen in 2018 received a three-year federal sentence after pleading guilty to fraud and perjury, among other crimes. He spent just 13 months of that time behind bars.
The longtime Trump lawyer, who arranged payouts from Trump to porn star Stormy Daniels and model Karen McDougal, has since turned on his former boss. Following his release from prison, Cohen testified in Manhattan district attorney Alvin Bragg's (D.) probe into Trump's payouts.
Cohen's attorney, Democratic operative Lanny Davis, went so far as to say "he sparked the investigation thanks in part to his political connections" to Bragg's predecessor, the Washington Free Beacon reported. Republicans have long said the Bragg probe is politically motivated.
Cohen is not the only lawbreaking lawyer to attempt to use Trump connections as an entry into politics. Daniels attorney Michael Avenatti in 2018 flirted with running for president, garnering extensive coverage from the mainstream media.
Avenatti was arrested in 2019 and received a five-year sentence for multiple convictions. He has since been sentenced to 14 more years behind bars, the Free Beacon reported.
