Horrific video shows gran using brick to try and kill kitten trapped in bin

A helpless little kitten was cruelly subjected to a sickening attack at the hands of a ‘sadistic’ woman.

Heartbreaking footage showed Pamela Mattinson repeatedly launching a brick into a wheelie bin towards the petrified cat after she had trapped it inside.

The 48-year-old grandmother was filmed hurling the block into her neighbour’s bin four times in an attempt to kill the moggy.

After each gut-wrenching blow, Mattinson, dressed all in pink, was seen staring into the bin to see if the kitty was still alive.

When she was confronted about the horrifying attack by her neighbour, Mattinson threatened to put the brick through his window and then fled the scene.

She later retrieved the injured cat from the bin but was arrested as she made her way to the vet.

Mattinson, who admitted that she had been drinking vodka prior to the incident, claimed she was trying to ‘put it out of its misery’ after she injured the kitten by accident.

Thankfully the cat somehow survived the traumatic ordeal and miraculously made a full recovery.

Appearing at Bolton Crown Court, Mattinson pleaded guilty to causing unnecessary suffering and using threatening behaviour.

Judge Nicholas Clarke said her brutal attempt to end the kitten’s life was a ‘despicable crime’ when sentencing her to eight months in prison, suspended for two years, and 180 hours of unpaid work.

He said: ‘In my role as a judge I have to deal, unfortunately, with a lot of cases where people are cruel or negligent to an animal.

‘In this case, as depicted in the video, you were not cruel nor negligent to an animal. You were trying to kill the cat.

‘The nature of the attack, as depicted in the video, was of a most despicable crime.’

Mattinson, from Bolton, Greater Manchester, launched the vile attack on the poor cat on March 2 this year.

Edmund Potts, prosecuting said: ‘[The neighbour] was at home when he heard a banging.

‘He went to the window and he saw Ms Mattinson in his back garden. Ms Mattinson was picking up a brick and throwing it into the wheelie bin.’

She was initially charged with animal cruelty and public order offences at the time of her arrest.

In mitigation, Colin Buckle said Mattinson struggled with her alcoholism and her mental health.

He suggested she was attempting to kill the cat ‘to put it out of its misery’ after she injured it by accident while trying to protect it from another cat.

Judge Clarke called Mattinson’s actions ‘sadistic’ but said he took into account that she was a ‘vulnerable’ individual during his sentencing remarks.

She was also banned from keeping animals for ten years and ordered to carry out 20 days of rehabilitation activities.

Last month, a cat that was abandoned in a park with heartbreaking note found a loving new home.
