UK weather: Exact date Brits to be battered by thunderstorms as end-of-summer 29C sunshine fizzles out

BRITS have been warned of thunderstorms and heavy rain as glorious 29C temperatures plummet this weekend.

The Met Office has warned parts of the UK are set to be battered by stormy weather on Saturday.

Today will bring sunny spells and intermittent rainfall across the south, and a gloomy morning in the north.

Throughout the day, showers are due to ease up and temperatures are forecast to remain mild.

But on Saturday, those in parts of Scotland, Newcastle, York and Manchester are predicted to experience heavy downpours which last until the evening.

Parts of Northern Ireland and Wales are also set to be battered by rain and possible thunderstorms.

Meteorologists forecast areas in London and the south east coast will also see patches of stormy weather.

Temperatures are predicted to cool off across the weekend, with most of the UK hovering in the high teens and low 20Cs.

A Met Office spokesperson predicted Saturday will bring: “A rather breezy day, especially in the north.

“Sunny spells and scattered showers. The showers most frequent and heaviest in the north with thunder possible. Temperatures near average.”

Thunderstorms could continue into Sunday, however the dull conditions are set to improve by Tuesday, August 15.

“Temperatures are likely to gradually increase through the week, with a chance of it becoming very warm or even hot, and likely humid in the south by the weekend,” the Met Office added.

Met Office forecaster Alex Deakin told The Mirror: “Look at this another spell of rain likely to head in towards Northern Ireland as we head towards Saturday morning. Cooler air in place so temperatures at night will be dipping down lower.

“Bands of showers likely to cross through England and Wales as well. The showers may form into bands which is something we need to keep an eye on because some places may see shower after shower and others may stay dry.”

This comes as Brits were issued heat warnings yesterday, with temperatures soaring to 29C in some parts of the country.

Officials warned vulnerable people — like the elderly — could be at greater risk of death and indoor environments will become “very warm”.

The yellow alert was issued across London, the South East, South West, East of England, West Midlands, East Midlands and Yorkshire and the Humber.
