Watch: Keith Richards Wishes Mick Jagger a Happy 80th Birthday
Keith Richards has popped in to wish his Rolling Stones bandmate Mick Jagger a happy 80th birthday.
“Happy Birthday, Mick. Long may we keep saying this to each other, Happy 80th! Love, Keith,” Richards captioned a special clip uploaded to his Instagram on Wednesday morning.
In the video, the rock legend can be seen sitting at a keyboard in his signature half-buttoned shirt. He plays a short riff on the piano, ending with a chuckling, “Hey, Mick.”
Richards then turns to the camera to address the birthday boy directly. “I guess, uh, long may we keep saying this to each other. Happy birthday Mick, ya know. Have another good’ne.”
Then, Richards seems to realize it’s been a while since he’s actually talked to Jagger, rather than just sent him videos online. “And give me a call,” the legendary guitarist says while laughing to the camera. “Let me know what it’s like.”
Fans went absolutely wild for the clip, flooding Richards’ comments with well wishes for both himself and Jagger on this special day.
Despite this milestone, Jagger and the Rolling Stones show no sign of slowing down. Last year, they launched their Sixty tour to commemorate their 60th anniversary as a band. It was unfortunately their first European tour without drummer Charlie Watts, who passed away in 2021.
“Rock ’n’ roll, or any kind of pop music honestly, isn’t supposed to be done when you’re in your 70s,” Jagger told The Sunday Times last year. “It wasn’t designed for that. Doing anything high-energy at this age is really pushing it. But that makes it even more challenging. So it’s, like, ‘OK, we’ve got to fucking do this right,’ but it’s got to be as full-on as possible.”
"I am not planning [Sixty] to be the last tour,” Jagger later told the Swedish radio station P4. "I love being on tour. I don't think I would do it if I didn't enjoy it."
Jagger seemed to also be enjoying the birthday attention. On X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, Jagger shared a photo of himself along with a message of gratitude.
“Thanks so much for all your lovely comments and birthday wishes!!” he posted alongside thankful hands and a heart emoji.
Richards will also celebrate his 80th birthday this year, on December 18. We wonder now how Jagger might mark the occasion.
