LAS VEGAS – MMA Junkie was on scene and reporting live from Friday’s official UFC 290 fighter weigh-ins, where all but one fighter hit their marks for Saturday’s event.
In the main event, featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski (25-2 MMA, 12-1 UFC) takes on interim champ Yair Rodriguez (16-3 MMA, 10-2 UFC) in a title unification bout. Volkanovski was the first fighter to the scale in the two-hour official weigh-ins window and was 144.5 pounds. Rodriguez was the third fighter to the scale and was 145.
In the co-feature, flyweight titleholder Brandon Moreno (21-6-2 MMA, 9-3-2 UFC) makes the first attempted defense of his second title reign when he meets Alexandre Pantoja (25-5 MMA, 9-3 UFC) in a rematch. Both fighters weighed in at 125 about a minute apart to make their fight official.
Only Jalin Turner (13-6 MMA, 6-3 UFC) missed weight for his lightweight bout against Dan Hooker (22-12 MMA, 12-8 UFC) on the main card. Turner was the last fighter to come to the scale and was 158 pounds. He did not attempt to cut additional weight and will be fined 20 percent of his purse.
The early weigh-ins took place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas and preceded the ceremonial weigh-ins for the fans, which take place at 4 p.m. ET at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The same venue hosts Saturday’s event, which has a main card on pay-per-view following prelims on ABC, ESPN and ESPN+.
