Junior welterweight contender Steve Claggett will face once-beaten Carlos Sanchez in the main event at Lac Leamy Casino, Gatineau, Quebec, on September 8.
On paper, this should be a fan-friendly contest between two aggressive, all-action fighters with power.
The Eye of The Tiger event will be available on punchinggrace.com, in Canada, and on ESPN+ in America.
Claggett (35-7-2, 25 knockouts) turned professional in 2008. He’s known as a rough, tough competitor, capable of upsetting anyone or suffering surprising losses. The 34-year-old has lost to Konstantin Ponomarev (L UD 8), Chris van Heerden (L MD 10) and compatriot Yves Ulysse Jr. (L UD 10).
However he also holds wins over previously unbeaten Emanuel Robles (SD 10), Ulysse (SD 10), Petros Ananyan (UD 10), Rafael Lugo (RTD 7) and, most recently, a career-best win over former junior lightweight titlist Alberto Machado (TKO 3). Claggett is on a six-fight win streak, all by stoppage.
Sanchez (24-1, 19 KOs) turned professional in January 2016. Much of his early career took place in America with a few appearances in his native Mexico. The 28-year-old reeled off 22 consecutive wins against less-than-stellar opposition before losing to fringe contender Pedro Campa (TKO 3).
To his credit, “El Tiburon” bounced back with wins over Elvis Torres (KO 7) and, most recently, previously unbeaten Alexander Duran (TD 6).
The undercard will see popular local middleweight Alexandre Gaumont (8-0, 6 KOs) fight and the rising Canadian quartet of junior lightweight Avery Martin Duval (10-0-1, 6 KOs), junior lightweight Thomas Chabot (9-0, 7 KOs), lightweight Luis Santana (9-0, 3 KOs) and Chris Guerrero (7-0, 3 KOs), as well as female cruiserweight Vanessa Lepage Joanisse (5-1, 2 KOs), are also scheduled to appear. Colombian junior lightweight puncher Jhon Orobio (3-0, 3 KOs), who will first fight on the undercard of Artur Beterbiev-Callum Smith, on August 19, is tabbed to return.
