Abela and Cassar win Assikura Doubles title

Doubles League brings 2022-23 Badminton Malta season to an end

The Assikura Doubles League, the final event on Badminton Malta’s calendar for season 2022-2023, was held recently at the Kirkop Sports Complex.

The tournaments in the various categories were played on a round-robin basis with a total of 12 teams taking part. The top honour was won by Mark Abela and Sam Cassar ahead of Matthew Abela and Matthew Galea who placed second in Division One.

In Division Two, Juan Casaru and Jeremy Mark Gatt secured first place with Lauren Azzopardi and Sarah Azzopardi runners-up.

Rosaleen Thenner Caruana and Monique Monika Vella prevailed in Division Three with Jade Fenech and Julia Galea finishing second.

Jo’Anne Cassar, Secretary General of Badminton Malta, said: “We are very pleased with the participation figures for this season’s Individual League. All three events were fully subscribed and the level of competition was high.

The Assikura Doubles Tournament was the third and final event from the Individual League with the previous two, the Assikura Singles League and Assikura Mixed Doubles played in March and April respectively.
