My girlfriend cries when I spend time with my son – she thinks it’s a cover up
DEAR DEIDRE: MY girlfriend is paranoid that I’m cheating on her, but I wouldn’t do anything to risk our relationship.
I’ve never felt as close to somebody as I do to her.
She is 27 and works for a recruitment agency. I’m 30, a mechanic, and we met when she brought her car in with a puncture.
I fixed it and told her there would be no charge. She said, “Well at least let me buy a drink”.
We went out on a date and the rest is history.
I’ve got a little boy who is three and, when it’s my turn to have him, I have to leave my girlfriend’s – and that’s when things go wrong.

She sobs and cries and begs me not to go. Then she says, “You’re not going to see your son. You’ve got somebody else”.
It’s rubbish. She ignores me until she feels better the next day.
What can I do?
DEIDRE SAYS: This will become a self-fulfilling prophecy if she doesn’t stop pushing you away.
Try to reassure her, but ultimately this isn’t about you – the insecurities are all hers.
She needs to take that leap of faith and start trusting you.
Perhaps she has been hurt in a past relationship and tries to stay one step ahead by suggesting that you’ve cheated, purely to protect herself.
