Report: Postecoglou wants to bring Japanese centre-back to Spurs
According to Japanese outlet Sponichi Annex, Tottenham Hotspur have expressed an interest in signing Stuttgart centre-back Hiroki Ito.
Ito initially joined Stuttgart on loan from J-League side Nagoya Grampus in the summer of 2021, with the Bundesliga side exercising the purchase option 12 months ago following his impressive debut season in Germany.
The 24-year-old hit even greater heights during the 2022-23 campaign, establishing himself as a mainstay in the club’s backline and delivering consistently solid displays.
Tottenham are looking at a move for Hiroki Ito
Sponichi Annex now claim that Ito’s performances have brought him to the attention of Tottenham, who are now exploring a move for the defender.
The publication notes that fellow Japanese star Kyogo Furuhashi is also being linked with a move to Spurs following Ange Postecoglou’s arrival in North London but asserts that the Lilywhites are more likely to pursue Ito, due to their need for a left-sided centre-back.
It is revealed that Stuttgart have already started looking for a successor for the Japanese international as they fear that he is on his way to the Premier League.

There could definitely be some truth to this as Postecoglou would know Ito well from his time in the J-League.
This seems a much more realistic rumour than the Kyogo one, given that the 24-year-old centre-back has already proven himself in the Bundesliga.
