VIEWERS of Britain’s Most Expensive Houses were left baffled by a rather unusual tactic used in a bid to sell a stunning £29m home.
One of the properties that was shown off on the Channel 4 show was an end-of-terrace located overlooking Regent’s Park in London.
The home belonged to the founder of Addison Lee car company John Griffin.
Now 80 years old, John was looking to offload the property after spending less and less time in the heart of the capital.
He paired up with luxury agency Sotherby’s in order to market the home and hopefully find a buyer.
Listed at £29million, the extensive house featured a gorgeous balcony which looked over the London park as well as an abundance of living spaces.
Trying to sell the home was leading agent Lee who had his work cut out for him to shift the Grade I listed property.
Lee decided to attract the attention of foreign buyers, particualrly those in the Chinese market.
In order to make sure the house would be appealing to Chinese buyers, he decided to enlist some help from an expert in the practise Feng Shui.
It is a practise which originated in China.
Feng Shui is also known as Chinese geomancy – the art of placing or arranging buildings or other sites to encourage success.
The term feng shui translates into wind-water, two elements credited with encouraging energy flow.
According to ancient tradition, bodies of water are thought to have the power to direct Qi, also known as the cosmic current.
During the episode, the expert insisted on getting rid of a single flower as it would only appeal to a single man as well as expressing why the positioning of the balcony worked well in relation to the lakes outside.
After giving his advice to Lee, he asked him if he would like him to bless the house to make it as pure as possible for potential buyers.
However, this did not go down well with fans who were left baffled at the bizarre practise of throwing specs of water around the home in order to ‘cleanse’ it ready for selling.
Writing online, one fan penned: “I hope the #estateagent on #britainsmostexpensivehouses didn’t pay that bloke for his advice and cleansing.”
Another added: “On sale for £29M and you get a be****d rocking up splashing water all over the gaff.”
As a third said: “That cleansing did nothing. Still on the market…”
Whilst a fourth raged: “My next job is gonna involve a mug of water, mumbling some random mumbo jumbo & then collecting a huge was of cash.
“When he said this home needed cleansing, i instantly thought of a vacuum cleaner.”
