Lauren Boebert's financial filing suggests the congresswoman is close to broke
Rep. Lauren Boebert’s (R-Colo.) appears to be going broke.
The far-right congresswoman has no more than $15,000 in a checking account she jointly owns with her estranged husband Jayson Boebert, according to a personal financial disclosure report made public on Wednesday. Lauren Boebert filed for divorce from Jayson Boebert earlier this year.
Jayson Boebert is listed as the owner of property on which between $250,000 and $500,000 is owed, according to the disclosure.
He is listed as the owner of 10 other accounts; four tax-deferred retirement accounts valued between $1,001 and $15,000, and six Robinhood accounts of which five are valued at no more than $1,000 and the other between $1,001 and $15,000.
Colorado is a marital property state, meaning that assets acquired and debts incurred during a marriage are divided equitably between spouses when couples split.
Boebert’s financial situation makes her an outlier on Capitol Hill, as most federal lawmakers have a net worth in thehundreds of thousands or even millions of dollars.
Lauren Boebert did write a book in 2022, but didn't indicate she received any royalty income from it — an omission that a Boebert representative told the Daily Beast is accurate and permissible but that government watchdogs viewed with skepticism.
She earns $174,000 annually as a member of the U.S. House.
