Simeon Wilcher signs with St. John’s, will be ready for summer workouts

Simeon Wilcher has officially signed with St. John’s and will be on campus Monday ahead of the start of summer workouts June 22, his father told ZAGSBLOG.
“Simeon is one of the premier high school players and he’s a proven winner,” Red Storm head coach Rick Pitino said in a statement. “He is a multidimensional combo guard who athletically has all the skills to be a great BIG EAST player.”
The 6-foot-4 Plainfield, N.J. native committed to St. John’s Monday after getting his release from North Carolina. St. John’s is bringing in 11 new players, including nine transfers and two freshmen in Wilcher and wing Brady Dunlap.
Wilcher is the highest rated incoming freshman that St. John’s has landed in the past decade. Wilcher is a top-10 rated point guard and ranks as a top-5 prospect from New Jersey in this year’s class. The four-star standout, who starred at national power Roselle Catholic, is also rated as high as the No. 28 overall according to ESPN.
Under Roselle Catholic head coach Dave Boff, Wilcher scored more than 1,200 points and dished out nearly 500 assists. The two-time NJ.com First Team All-State selection helped lead Roselle Catholic to back-to-back of NJSIAA Non-Public B State Championships in 2022 and 2023 after going a perfect 15-0 in the state tournament.
As a senior this past season, Wilcher averaged 15.4 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.8 steals helping Roselle Catholic to its second consecutive state title. He scored double figures in 20 of 25 appearances, including seven 20-plus point outings. The 2023 NJ.com All-State First Team selection helped lead Roselle Catholic to the semifinals of the 2023 State Champions Invitational in Washington, D.C., after scoring 29 points and dishing out five assists in a win over Curtis High School (Washington).
“Simeon has a pro style game and an elite competitive mindset,” Jimmy Hart, who coached Wilcher with the Albany City Rocks on the Nike EYBL circuit, told NJ Advance Media. “He never wilts under pressure. He wants the ball in late game situations. He’s an elite finisher at the rim with deep range on an improving jump shot. He lives and breathes the game and is always in the gym.”
