St. John’s coach Rick Pitino will throw out the first pitch in the Subway Series game between the Yankees and Mets at Citi Field on June 13.
“I’m going to throw a slider, I think,” Pitino said with a laugh Wednesday by phone after warming up his arm in the gym. “I’m going to throw my arm out, is what I think I’m going to do.”
The Yankees and Mets will play a two-game series June 13-14 at Citi Field.

UConn coach Dan Hurley, who led the Huskies to the NCAA championship in April, attended a Mets game earlier this season as guard Andre Jackson Jr. threw out the first pitch.
Yet another Big East coach, Shaheen Holloway, threw out the first pitch at a Phillies-Mets game on May 1, 2022.
Pitino, a Naismith Hall of Famer who has led three programs to the Final Four, will begin his first season at St. John’s next year. Summer practices begin June 22.
