10-foot alligator causes chaos after it goes for casual walk across motorway
Drivers had to tell their plans ‘see ya later’ when a massive alligator went for a stroll on the motorway.
The 10-foot beast backed up traffic for over an hour in the Florida Keys – the southernmost tip of the gator-infested state.
A team of specialist rescuers, armed with duct tape and worryingly short snare, had the unenviable job of trying to shift it from Highway 1 in Key Largo.
It predictably got a bit snappy and did a few ‘death rolls’ on the road, but it was eventually apprehended by a couple of burly Florida men.
As one sat on its back, the other went to town with the tape, tightly wrapping it around and around its jaw
It was then loaded on the back of a truck and returned to the nearby Everglades by the team from Pesky Critters Wildlife Control.
A much sadder incident last week saw an alligator jump off a balcony more than 20 storeys high to escape being cooked and eaten in China.
CCTV footage shows a one-metre-long gator plummeting from a high-rise building in Shenzhen on May 29.
Miraculously, its fall was broken by a shop’s canopy meaning it was able to survive his leap of faith.
Police were able to locate the alligator’s owner, Mr Liu, who told them he was secretly keeping the alligator as a pet for over a decade – and was intended for consumption.
The alligator has since been taken into custody, and the local fishery department is conducting an investigation.
