Mom issues warning about ‘toxic’ chemicals that could be lurking in your kids’ pajamas and reveals how to avoid them
A MOTHER has said parents should be wary about the clothing brands that they buy for their children.
Some pajamas contain chemicals that have been linked to long-term diseases and harmful disorders.
TikToker and healthy living afficionado Sammy (@cleanlivingsammy) seeks to guide parents in making better choices for their kids.
In one video, she said that although you may not think deeply about the pajamas your little ones wear, you should now.
“Did you know that your kiddos’ cute pajamas can have chemicals hiding in them that are linked to cancer, reproductive toxicity, learning disorders and more?” she began.
While the intent behind adding these chemicals is safety-based, Sammy said they actually have the opposite effect.
“This is because flame retardant chemicals are added to PJs to keep them safe,” she said, with air quotes around the word safe to express her disapproval.
This claim has been backed by extensive research that linked different flame retardants to “various health problems,” according to The New York Times.
Thankfully, the chemical is easy to avoid.
“I’m going to show you how,” Sammy said.
She headed to Costco to explain what to look out for.
Holding a princess dress, she pointed to the back of the tag that said, “Flame resistant sleepwear,” and said that this meant there were chemicals added.
“What you want to look for instead is this yellow tag and this label that says, ‘Wear snug fitting. Not flame resistant,’” she noted, as that means there are no chemicals.
She also found an option whose tag said, “Made with organically grown cotton,” meaning it was chemical-free as well.
“That’s a great find at Costco.”
