Toronto Society of Architects Walking Tours Are Back For A New Season—And With New Tours!
June marks the official start of the 13th season of the Toronto Society of Architects’ Walking Tours, a popular summer initiative that invites Torontonians and visitors alike to explore the stories behind the city’s buildings and landscapes through fun and informative tours.
Part of the TSA’s educational initiatives and led by an enthusiastic team of volunteers, the TSA’s Walking Tours celebrate Toronto’s architecture and landscapes through thoughtfully developed walks. This year’s offering includes 9 unique thematic tours that weave together landmark structures and hidden gems to bring to life the stories of how Toronto got built and where we are heading. From heritage to contemporary design, architectural history to social movements, TSA tours are a great way to better understand our city and the decisions that have shaped it.
For 2023, in addition to returning crowd favourites like the Towers tour and Art & The Grange, the TSA is launching two new tours exploring topics of tangible and intangible heritage through a contemporary lens: St Lawrence and The Church and Wellesley Village.
The St. Lawrence tour will take you through a walk of one of Toronto’s oldest neighbourhoods as your tour guide unpacks how the work, activism and ideas of 20th and 21st century architects, planners, politicians and community activists played a key role in not only preserving our past, but bringing new life to the historic district. In the Church and Wellesley Village tour you will explore the evolution of queer spaces in the city through the buildings, landscapes and art of one of the world’s most recognizable gay villages.
The 2023 season runs from the first weekend of June to the first weekend of October, with tours offered at varied times every Saturday and Sunday. All tours are 90-120 minutes in length and cost $15 per person.
