Investigators found the 18-year-old man carrying a Glock 34 pistol allegedly stolen from a home in San Rafael.
Marin County sheriff’s detectives arrested a man in connection with a gun theft investigation in San Rafael.
The resident who owns the Glock 34 pistol filed a theft report with the San Rafael Police Department in January. The gun was taken from the resident’s home.
Months later, the Marin County Specialized Investigative Unit, part of the sheriff’s office, received reports that Diontae Sol Burton, 18, of San Rafael had a Glock gun. Investigators suspected the gun was the one that had been reported stolen.
Detectives obtained a warrant this month for a search of Burton, who does not have a consistent address, according to the sheriff’s department. On Thursday, investigators learned he was in the area of Woodland Avenue and Lindaro Street in San Rafael.
Detectives detained Burton at about 2:40 p.m. after seeing him leave a residence, and they found the Glock 34 in his belt bag, the sheriff’s department reported.
Burton was booked into the Marin County Jail on suspicion of possessing a gun in a school zone, possessing a loaded gun a public place and possession of stolen property. The residence where detectives spotted Burton is near Davidson Middle School, and he came within about 350 feet of the campus when he was arrested.
The bail amount was set at $100,000. Burton was no longer in custody Saturday. He could not be reached for comment.
The Marin County District Attorney’s Office filed a felony case against him on Friday.
