Chinese Foreign Ministry: publishing fakes about China won’t help the US cover up that it’s a hacking empire
Washington is spreading fakes about alleged Chinese hacking attacks, but this will not change the fact that the US is a hacking empire, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said at a briefing on Thursday.
Commenting on reports that a Chinese hacking group had allegedly launched attacks on key US infrastructure, Mao Ning noted that reports with this information were simultaneously published by the US National Security Agency and similar organisations in Britain, Australia, Canada and New Zealand. She said it was clearly a collective action by the Five Eyes Alliance to spread disinformation, carried out at the behest of the US in its geopolitical interests.
“As we all know, the Five Eyes Alliance is the largest intelligence organisation in the world and the US National Security Agency is the world’s largest hacking organisation. That they are jointly publishing fake information is ironic in itself,” Mao Ning said.
She said the fact that various companies (such as Microsoft) are getting involved in spreading such messages shows that the US is expanding the channels for spreading fake information.
“This is not the first time this has happened, obviously not the last. But no matter how they change their methods, the fact that the US is a hacking empire will remain the same,” the diplomat said.
She said Washington should immediately provide clarification on its cyber attacks, rather than spreading fakes to divert attention.
