The livery first appeared on the AO Racing GTD Porsche at the IMSA WeatherTech Twelve Hours of Sebring back in March. The colour scheme is inspired by the son and daughter of AO Racing team principal and driver PJ Hyett. He proudly wears a T-Rex and unicorn on his race helmet, taking his family with him as he races.
The car livery immediately became a fan favourite, and the overwhelmingly positive response prompted Hyett and team manager and driver Gunnar Jeannette to bring the livery to the team’s joint effort with Project 1 for the centenary running of the Le Mans 24 Hours next month.
“PJ and I have been thrilled with the response from race fans all over the world with our Rexy livery,” said Jeannette.
“It was received so warmly in our American racing efforts, that we knew it was only fitting to bring Rexy to compete in France for the Centenary of the Le Mans 24 Hours. Project 1 with AO Racing is so excited to bring Rexy to our international fans for the greatest sports car racing event in the world.”
Alongside this reveal, the team will also launch a special fan merchandise line later this week.
