The Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA), in its determination to realise Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and ensure that no one is left behind, has in conjunction with one of its partners, Health System Consult Limited (HSCL), trained 140 Community-Based Enrollment Officers (CBOs).
The General Manager, Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA), Dr. Emmanuella Zamba, in her opening remarks at the Community Based Health Insurance Enrolment Officers Training, held at the Lagos Chambers of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), congratulated the successful Officers for been counted worthy to enrol both the young and old on ILERA EKO Health Insurance, in the various communities across the State.
She said that the Lagos State Health Scheme Law (LSHS) of 2015, made it mandatory for Lagos residents to have Health Insurance and that in addition, the National Health Insurance Act (NHIA) of 2022 signed by President Muhammadu Buhari, has also made it mandatory for Nigerians to have Health Insurance. She added that the Act, also made it compulsory for Nigerians to enroll on their State Health Insurance Scheme.
Dr. Zamba appealed to the newly employed youths by HSCL for the Agency, to be dedicated, committed and alive to their responsibilities, as the Agency recognises and rewards staff with excellent and outstanding performances.
She advised them not to oversell the Health Insurance but should limit their selling points to only the benefit package covered by the Agency in all its Health Insurance plans as LASHMA only covers 85 per cent of medical conditions that patients go to the Hospitals for.
The General Manager said that Health is the second pillar in the T.H.E.M.E.S Agenda of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, therefore, Mr. Governor is determined to ensure that residents in the State live a healthy life, adding that healthy people make a healthy State and healthy economy.
Dr. Zamba also commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his passion in ensuring that everybody in the State including the vulnerable, has access to affordable and quality healthcare under ILERA EKO, thereby reducing out-of-pocket payment and relieving them of huge medical bills.
She appreciated the good gesture of HSCL for embarking on the appointment exercise and the payment of the salaries of the 140 field Officers to boost ILERA EKO enrollment at the grassroots.
Dr. Zamba said that at the end of the training, the 140 CBOs would be posted to Ikeja, Badagry, Ikorodu and Lagos Divisions.
