Shoppers have discovered that there is one simple trick to always snagging the freshest bread at the supermarket, thanks to this viral video on TikTok.
The popular influencer shared the short clip to his 9million followers, directing viewers to pay more attention to the small plastic clip on the bread bag.
“Buying bread is strategic,” Jordan Howlett (@jordan_the_stallion8) started. “If you follow this specific strategy you can prolong how good your bread is for days.”
He explained that the plastic clips on bread bags are color coordinated according to the day the bread was baked.
“The color of the clip will tell you what day the bread was baked on,” he said.
Howlett then listed which colors correspond to which days and recommended that viewers only choose bread baked on that day or the day before for the freshest loaf.
His TikTok video showing the hidden trick has already been watched more than 3.2million times and is still gaining views.
He originally posted the clip in response to another user’s question: “What is something you found out late in life you should have known earlier but just didn’t?”
Howlett jumped right in with his response, saying: “I found out that I’ve been buying bread incorrectly my entire life.”
He threw in another bonus tip about how to maintain the bread’s freshness for his loyal viewers, too.
“You can preserve your bread for an extra day or two so the oxygen doesn’t get into the bread,” he explained.
“All you have to do is turn [the bag] and open the [remainder] up to then layer it right back down,” he added.
He then demonstrated how to flip the bag inside out on video and seal it without any additional clips.
Viewers were impressed to learn such simple tricks for better bread.
