Prince Harry & Meghan Markle involved in ‘car chase’ after awards ceremony in New York, spokesman says
PRINCE Harry and Meghan Markle have been involved in a car chase while driving home from an awards ceremony, the couple’s spokesperson claimed today.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, 41, were followed on the streets of New York on Tuesday, it has been claimed.
Harry‘s representative said the incident, which they alleged lasted for almost two hours, nearly ended in a collision.
The spokesperson said it “resulted in multiple near collisions involving other drivers on the road, pedestrians and two NYPD officers”.
They also said Meghan‘s mum Doria Ragland was in the car at the time.
The spokesperson said: “(It) last(ed) over two hours, resulted in multiple near collisions involving other drivers on the road, pedestrians and two NYPD (New York Police Department) officers.”
The couple were in the Big Apple for a Ms Foundation gala where Meghan was presented with the 2023 Women of Vision Award.
They entered and left the venue publicly allowing for pictures.
Harry, 38, Meghan and Doria were staying at a private residence and did not want to compromise the security of their friend’s home.
The trip from California to New York came as Meghan was being recognised for her work fighting for women’s rights before giving a speech about issues that mattered to her.
Meghan and Harry’s Archewell Foundation recently donated £2.5million to the Brooklyn-based organisation.
In a full statement their spokesperson said: “Last night, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and Ms Ragland were involved in a near-catastrophic car chase at the hands of a ring of highly aggressive paparazzi.
“This relentless pursuit, lasting over two hours, resulted in multiple near collisions involving other drivers on the road, pedestrians and two NYPD officers.
“While being a public figure comes with a level of interest from the public, it should never come at the cost of anyone’s safety.
“Dissemination of these images, given the ways in which they were obtained, encourages a highly intrusive practice that is dangerous to all involved.”
