Charlie Baker’s son, Andrew ‘A.J.’ Baker, arrested and charged with drunk driving: Mass State Police

Former Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker’s son, Andrew “A.J.” Baker, was arrested and charged with drunk driving Saturday night, according to Massachusetts State Police.

Andrew, 29, of South Boston, is accused of driving drunk while heading down Route 95 south in Lynnfield Saturday night.

A Mass State Police trooper at 8:15 p.m. responded to the highway, before Walnut Street in Lynnfield, where Peabody police officers had stopped a Volkswagen Jetta after following it from Route 114.

Another motorist had told Peabody police that the Jetta was being driven erratically.

“Peabody officers on scene told the Trooper they had detected signs of intoxication in the male operator, who was out of the vehicle at the time of the Trooper’s arrival,” a State Police spokesman said in a statement. “The Trooper also observed signs of intoxication during his interaction with the operator.

“The Trooper then administered several standardized field sobriety tests,” the spokesman added.

Based on the results of those tests, along with the trooper’s observations of the driver and his statements, the trooper determined that the driver was drunk, according to police.

Andrew Baker was placed under arrest for operating under the influence of liquor.

He was then transported to the State Police Danvers Barracks, where he was booked.

A bail clerk was contacted and released him on personal recognizance, plus the standard $40 bail fee. Andrew will be arraigned at Peabody District Court on a future date.

This isn’t the first time that the former governor’s son was in the spotlight for an alleged crime.

Andrew in 2018, while his father was governor, was accused of sexual assault on a JetBlue flight from D.C. to Boston Logan International Airport. He was accused of inappropriately touching a 29-year-old woman who was sitting next to him on the plane. That case was never prosecuted.
