Global soccer powers Juventus, Barcelona set for Bay Area clash this summer
The Bay Area’s summer soccer schedule is piling up.
In addition to the regular-season action for the San Jose Earthquakes, Oakland Roots and newly founded Oakland Soul, a handful of European sides will trek to Northern California.
Italian giants Juventus and Spanish super-club FC Barcelona are set to face off at Levi’s Stadium July 22, the 49ers announced Friday. The exhibition match is part of the Soccer Champions Tour, which also includes a Barcelona-Real Madrid Clásico at AT&T Stadium, as well as three matches in Southern California.
Barcelona is on the verge of clinching the La Liga title this season, while Juve sits second in Serie A behind Napoli, which has secured first place in Italy.
Tickets for the match go on pre-sale Tuesday, May 16 and general ticket access begins Friday, May 19, both at SoccerChampionsTour.com.
That match comes less than two weeks after PayPal Stadium hosts the U.S. women’s final match prior to the World Cup, a July 9 afternoon date with Wales. Tickets for that match went on sale this week.
And less than two weeks after the Barca-Juve match, Oracle Park will host a La Liga doubleheader: Athlético Madrid vs. Sevilla and Real Sociedad vs. Real Betis. Those games are set for Aug. 5 at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m., respectively, and come three days after the teams play a pair of matches in Mexico. Tickets for that event are already on sale through the Giants.
