People are convinced coronation choir sang ‘wide-backed vagina, Camilla’

The crowning of Britain’s new monarch was an undoubtedly grand affair, barring one moment that had many doing a double-take. 

Upon the Queen’s entrance to Westminster Abbey, marking the beginning of the coronation service, the choir sang ‘Vivat Regina Camilla’ (long live Queen Camilla).

At least, that’s how it might have sounded to most. But some social media users have offered a somewhat less flattering interpretation of the exultant line. 

As one person posted, with a clip of the audibly ambiguous moment: ‘You will never convince me they weren’t singing “wide-backed vagina, Camilla”.’

Others suggested ‘wipe that vagina’ or ‘wide-ass vagina, Camilla.’ 

While viewers might first have heard the chorus in the earnest original Latin, many say they now ‘can’t un-hear’ the decidedly smuttier versions.

One person commented: ‘If you said they said something different I wouldn’t believe you.’

Another added: ‘You all going to hell. Me included.’

Further comments joked the original poster may now face retribution from the monarchy – a nod to what has been criticised as heavy-handed policing of protesters during yesterday’s event.

On Saturday, the Metropolitan Police arrested the leader of anti-monarchy group Republic and more than 50 other people from among those who’d turned out in protest against the historic event.

Camilla was followed into the abbey on Saturday morning by her husband, whose entrance was marked with a similar message – albeit one less likely to be misinterpreted.

Using the Latin version of the King’s name, the choir sang ‘Vivat Rex Carolus, Vivat’ – meaning ‘long live King Charles’.
