Report: Pochettino’s Chelsea could swoop for attacker also linked with Spurs

The Daily Mail have claimed that Chelsea could enter the race to sign Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha, who is rumoured to be on Tottenham’s radar.

Zaha’s current contract with Palace is set to run out in June (Transfermarkt) and the winger’s future has thus been the source of much speculation over recent months.

London World reported back in March that Tottenham are at the front of the queue to snap up the 30-year-old, with the publication stating that the North London club are ‘increasingly confident’ of securing the attacker’s signature.

This is not the first time that the Lilywhites have been linked with a move for Zaha, who was mooted as a target for Spurs back in 2017 when Mauricio Pochettino was in charge in N17 (The Sun).

Six years on, it now looks like Pochettino might be united with the Ivory Coast international at Stamford Bridge.

The Mail explain that the soon-to-be Chelsea head coach is open to the idea of signing Zaha on a free transfer, with the Blues now said to be considering an approach.

It is revealed that Palace have offered the experienced star a new contract worth £200,000 per week but the player is keeping his options open for the moment.

Apart from Chelsea, the likes of AC Milan, Inter Milan, Napoli and Marseille are also said to have expressed an interest in Zaha, who has also allegedly received lucrative offers from Saudi Arabia.

Spurs Web Opinion

It is certainly not surprising that Zaha is of interest to many clubs as it is not often that an attacker of the 30-year-old quality is available on a free transfer. 

However, I am not sure if the Palace star would be the right fit for Spurs, with Son and Richarlison already adept at playing on the left, which is also the position where the Ivorian is at his best.
