Former club official does not think loyal manager will join Spurs this summer
Former Sporting Lisbon vice-president Antonio Menezes Rodrigues has said that he expects Ruben Amorim to remain at the Portuguese club for at least one more season.
The Evening Standard reported on Thursday morning that Tottenham are now expected to step up their search for a new manager.
The publication explained that the club have now done their due diligence on the process and are set to speak to various candidates about the opening.
The report explained that Amorim is one of the coaches the North London club are expected to speak to, with the 38-year-old’s attacking style of play and preference for a three-man defence thought to appeal to Spurs.
However, the report also revealed that the Portuguese coach’s contract at Jose Alvalade Stadium has a significant buy-out clause.
Rodrigues has now described Amorim as a man of ‘irreproachable ethics’ and stated that he expects him to still be at Lisbon at the start of next season.
When asked about speculation linking the Sporting boss’ with a move to Spurs, he told Radio Renascenca’s Bola Branca show (as translated by Sport Witness): “He’s (Amorim) a man of strong character and irreproachable ethics.
“I don’t think he’ll leave. It’s my intuition.
“In the moment of truth, Ruben will stay at Sporting for at least one more season.”

Amorim would tick plenty of boxes for Spurs and his tactics would suit the characteristics of the club’s current squad.
I have no doubt that the 38-year-old will take the job if offered but the Tottenham hierarchy might have some concerns regarding his lack of experience in a top league.
